Traditional fixed bridgework
Preparing for a traditional bridge requires grinding down the adjacent tooth structure to support the bridge. It is a stable solution that provides excellent esthetics and function.
Removable partial denture
This is a removable solution to a lost tooth. It is often unstable and attached with hooks or clasps, which impacts both function and comfort. A removable partial denture is made of acrylic. It is an economical substitute for an implant or fixed bridge.
Maryland bridge
This option has some utility despite its limitations. This prosthesis can be quickly inserted, performs well and, given its ceramic composition is an esthetic option. Its advantages are that adjacent teeth are spared any preparation. Its biggest disadvantage is that these bridges fail after a period of time and have to be redone. Dr. Cholakis recommends this bridge in young patients as a transitional option before deciding on an implant or fixed bridge later in life.
